Connie Irene Munson - 1980

This poor girl tried to escape a place so horrible that it is only fitting that it is now burned down to the ground. The authorities tried several times to intervene but it took them too long to be successful. The families were properly kept in the dark about what took place there.

Many years have passed and so many years later we should have been able to state that such places were of the past. But today there are still teenage girls out there who experience the same horrors which led to her escape which ended to tragically for her when she was hit by traffic on a nearby road.

May she find peace in her next life. A peace she unfortunately was not allowed in this life.

Bobby Sue Thomas - 1996

To restain someone while they are lying on their stomach can result in their death. This is known and accepted today. It was also known in 1996 but there was no training of employees how to do it otherwise.

It resulted in the death of Bobby Sue Thomas after the employees decided to restrain her due to some kind of conflict between them and the girl.

Her life was cut short due to lack of proper training. Tragic for both her and the family she left behind.

May she find peace where she is now.

Bryan Jones - 1995

15 year old Bryan Jones was sent to this worn down place with faulty wires. It was no surprise that he got electrocuted while doing chores there.

For his family it was a tragedy. 15 years were all he was given in this life. To soon and a very tragic outcome.

May he find peace where he is now.

Ian August - 2002

The tragic death of 14-year-old Ian August showed the state of Utah exactly what was needed in light of oversight of the wilderness industry.

But despite this oversight is still needed. Teenagers continue to die in residential programs in Utah. The tragic death also showed exactly how corporate lack of responsibility works. The owners continued in the business under new names. The employees just moved on to the next program working exactly the same.

For his family his death was tragic and a loss they properly forever would be affected by. That makes it extra senseless that none never really was brought to justice for his death.

May he find peace where he is now.

Joy Evans - 1976

When you are going to be operated you are told not to eat some hours before. The reason is that you is going to lie on your back during the operation and you could vomit resulting in your death during the operation.

This vital lesson the employees forgot when they forced fed 17 year old Joy Evans on her back. She choked to death. Officially the local doctor wrote something else.

Joy Evans was sent to Forest Haven Asylum in Maryland when she was 8. There were no other options given to her parents by the local school district. They sent her with their hands tied behind their back.

Opened in 1925 the facility soon became overcrowded. It closed in 1991 because the public had learned too much. While it was opened it was a cheap place to stack mentally ill and others just labelled like that so the system could save money. Children from nearby children home was labelled mentally ill so the system could stuck them there in 1974.

None knows exactly how many who died at this facility. Many were adults but where properly were other kids who died there. If you know a name, send us some records so they can be remembered for as long as this blog exist. They deserve that someone will use the time on them - a thing the system would do when they were alive.

We can only wish that Joy Evans is at a better place now.

May she rest in peace.
