(Unknown girl) - 2014

A 15-year-old girl died as result of a suicide at Summit School best known in the public when a boy died after being pushed from a window as result of a poor mix of room mates.

It is tragic for family of the girl who suffered a terrible loss.

May she find peace where she is now.

Chaim Weiss - 1986

15 year old Chaim Weiss was found dead in his bed at the Orthodox Jewis boarding school. None have been able to find out how the killer made it into his dormitory room. He was stabbed repeatedly.

There were several signs that the killer was aware of the victims religious belief. A window had been left open slightly in the victim's room, which, according to Orthodoxy, enables the spirit of the dead to depart. Beyond that, a lighted mourning candle was placed on Chaim's desk.

If anyone could come forward with information, his family would like to get some kind of closure.

15 years was a short time to be allowed to live. May he find peace where he is now.

Corey Foster - 2012

2012 was just started when 16 year old Corey Foster died while the employees at Leake & Watts residential treatment center in New York tried to restrain him.

The restraint was not done by the book and a cause could be the massive number of residents in the system making it hard to give each teenager the attention he needs.

An investigation is ongoing and the center has been met with a lot of criticism.

To die just 16 year of age is a tragedy and a terrible loss for his family.

May he rest in peace.

Darryl Thompson - 2006

New York News and Features calls it New York’s most infamous juvenile prison. A place where where troubled kids learn to become troubled adults.

Darryl Thompson did not return with that lesson. In fact he never returned alive. Instead he was exposed to a deathly physical restraint so the risk of having an adult criminal returning to the city was avoided.

But can a society accept that the only tool to rehabilitate a troubled youth is to kill them? No, the public will not accept it but at the same time the public is not ready to pay what it takes to give at-risk children a consequence carried out in human way.

As long as the public will accept an underpriced product, the result will be death at some point. For the relatives of Darryl Thompson it is no comfort in their tragedy.

Jamar Griffiths - 1994

As this blog is developing restraints will be listed as the cause of death in many, many cases.

When Jamar Griffiths was restrained October 18, 2004 at Allen Residential Center in Delaware County - New York, it became such a death.

An article from 2009 did show that there are still issues in this area in New York, which have not been dealt with. Whistle-blowers claims that abuse took place as late as last year.

A long and tough road is ahead for the politicians if they have the human surplus to advocate for a change, but just think about how tough the road has been for the teenagers who have been and continues to be in the system.

Jeremy Gaulin - 2002

When you let two teenagers share room at a treatment facility it is important that they match.

The murderer in this case did suffer from Asperger's syndrome. It calls for a very structured days if you want to avoid panic attacks which can develop into assault on staff and other patients.

Poor Mr. Gaulin did suffer from attention deficit disorder which results in a behavior which is unstructured, inability to focus and to keep to a routine.

Mr. Gaulin could unknowingly have provoked the attack by just being himself. It is a stern warning for those residential treatment facilities which are willing to take all kind of problems in. They must see to that patients who have illnesses where they cannot deal with other persons, can be offered a one person room, so they don't start fighting other patients.

It was by no mean any fault by Mr. Gaulin that he was placed in a room where he could risk an attack while dealing with his illness. It was a fault the facility made.

The murderer had a parole hearing in 2009. He was denied parole. Hopefully they continued his treatment in jail, so he knows what he is serving time for.
