Kiley Michelle Jaquays - 2002

Integrity House - later known for a sex scandal - took the girls for an outing back in 2002. The location for the outing was not chosen very well because the local authorities (Washington County Sheriff Kirk Smith) described the area as dangerous. Kiley Michelle Jaquays died when she fell from a ledge.

It is not known why the employees made the choice of allowing students to go to a place where only professional rock climbers have business going.

For the family it must have been a terrible loss.

May she find peace where she is now.

Unknown male - 2007

We don't know the name of this young man who died at the Red Rock Canyon School. We have not been able to locate the obituary. Surely this young man did not deserve to die at such young age. Some employees at the Red Rock Canyon School did not do their job.

When a facility is able to avoid having such news published in newspapers it leaves the question unanswered whether the death was properly investigated. Each death at such a young age is a tragedy. Every single death demands an investigation. It demands time in court so there can be an official ruling. Otherwise residential programs does not improve and the path is open for yet another tragedy in the future.

May this young unnamed man find peace where he is now.

Daniel Huerta - 2011

Big Cypress Wilderness Institute was given the responsibility to look after 17 year old Daniel Huerta. The Florida based firm did not do a very good job because he downed as result of an accident involving a driver who shouldn't be driving clients.

He was failed by the system. Someone needs to take responsibility. Otherwise such a tragedy would happen again.

May he find peace where he is now.

Cindy Gilbert Sohappy - 2003

While having been born in Denmark we understand and respect that some countries have another age limit for alcohol consumption than here in Denmark where the purchase limit is 16 year of age.

But a law is one thing. Putting teenagers in holding cells while they are so intoxicated that they are unable to walk is playing with their lives. And they played with the life of 16 year old Cindy Gilbert Sohappy. She came to the Chemawa Indian School in Salem Oregon to get an education – not to be placed in a holding cell to die.

Whenever laws are made to make something interesting teenagers will investigate with a curiosity as cats and some will go too far as Miss Sohappy unfortunately did. She needed medical attention because such a young body has not decades of experience with alcohol. She didn’t get it. Instead the employees treated her as a hardened alcoholic and this decision killed her.

Fortunately they no longer use the holding cells but if the death of this woman should have any lasting impact they should start treating teenagers who consume too much alcohol as patients, not criminals.

Miss Sohappy never got to live an adult life. May she find peace where she is now.
